I am an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Disciplines at Athabasca University and my research interests include complex and life limiting conditions and the experience of families; grief and bereavement with a specific focus on children, youth and young adults and their families; improving the transition process from pediatric to adult care; and developing a public health approach to palliative care, and advance care planning.  My research approaches include in person and online and patient engagement strategies within qualitative and mixed methods and Indigenous Ways of Knowing.

My clinical career focused on supporting children, young adults and their families manage complex and palliative conditions as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Registered Clinical Counsellor..

When not working, I love to travel, be outside biking, hiking and cross country skiing and also enjoy reading, music. BC is home and I spend as much time as I can the near the ocean and in the mountains and forests. I am enormously proud of my three young adults who are launched in fascinating lives and profoundly miss the love of my life, Russ.

My academic and career trajectory stretches across Canada. My undergraduate degree is from the University of British Columbia, my master's degree from McGill University in Montreal, and my PhD from McMaster University in Ontario. I also completed the requirements for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists through the University of Guelph.
